SDA recognizes five core areas as vital to better practice management in A/E/C firms. By centering its educational content on these areas, SDA provides members with both the breadth and depth necessary to excel in the design industry. These 5 areas are the foundation for continuing education seminars, on-line resources, networking opportunities, and the SDA Certification Program.

SDA members who handle all aspects of office administration benefit from the educational materials in Office Administration. OA deals with a combination of areas including General Office Administration, Information Technology, Facilities Management and Business Continuity Planning, Sustainability and Software and Computer Tips and Training .
SDA provides administrative professionals with the tools to balance a host of HR topics, including federal and regional regulations, employee benefits, staffing, and other personnel issues.
SDA members are kept current on design industry topics related to financial managing and planning. Examples of topics include specialized A/E accounting software, bookkeeping and accounting procedures, liability insurance, contracts, payroll, and A/R and A/P
SDA strives to educate administrators in business development, proposal requirements and generation, and market research. The Marketing content enhances the marketer’s personal skill set in networking techniques, fostering client relations, and developing and monitoring contact management processes.
SDA members are provided with the tools to tackle the diverse aspects of project management. The PM content promotes awareness of the many software programs available to manage projects and specifications, as well as provides information on forms and shortcuts to help manage the day-to-day business of the project.


SDA, the recognized leader in education for best practices in the A/E/C industry, offers a credential that recognizes your administrative and management expertise, the Certified Design Firm Administrator (CDFA) designation. The CDFA credential is a voluntary certification designed to test professional practice management and contribute to an administrator's personal and professional growth as well as their firm’s organizational growth and maturity through better practices in design firm management. Enhanced marketability and increased earning potential are just two of the many benefits CDFA certification provides.
